To the Moon

Let me take you to the Moon”, I said.

With bated breath and a speeding heart, she looked up at me, a twinkle in the corner of her eye, holding the secrets of the universe. Her eyes danced across my face, her face wearing a tiny hint of a smile, holding something more than just happiness. A promise.

A million thoughts ran through her mind, but one thing was certain — there would be no regrets. She turned her back to me, and a moment passed, maybe two. Through her teary eyes, she saw the long, winding path that she walked, all the people she met along the way, and everything she ever was. A tear rolled down her cheeks as she thought of all the times she walked down that path alone. She wiped the tears away knowing that she would never have to walk alone again.

She turned around and without a moment’s pause, dove straight into my arms. I held on to her, promising myself never to let go again.

I held her face tenderly in the palm of my hands as our bodies dissolved into the sands as old as time and propelled through space giving reality a rain check. The outside world burned scarlet red, with a splash of blue like a chord guiding us to the world we dreamed of. The very essence of our being intertwined as we tore through space and time.

When I finally opened my eyes we stood at the crater-ridden surface of the Moon.

Sitting at the edge of the bright side of the Moon, we both looked back at the world we used to know. Distant yet not so far away. She put her head on my shoulder as she cozied up to me. I could not have imagined it better than this.
